On this job the wall insulation, the new roof and the solar array all went in together. The panels sit flush in the roof plane, flashed in like rooflights, rather than standing on brackets above the tiles.
An in-roof array is only economic while the roof is open — which is why, if your roof is due anyway, that is the moment to decide about solar. Leave it until afterwards and you are paying to lift a roof you have just paid for.

Scottish winter generation is close to zero exactly when heating peaks. A battery on an off-peak tariff fills up at night at a fraction of the daytime unit rate — about 70% less per shifted unit — and that works in January as well as June. For electric-heated homes it is usually the bigger win, and it is a one-day install.

Yes, but with realistic expectations. Scotland gets roughly 800 kWh per kWp per year against about 950 in the south of England — around 15% less. The bigger factor is how much of your own generation you use directly, which is why we push modular batteries. A typical Scottish household on our Shield package sees an 8–11 year payback. Anyone quoting you 5 years is using optimistic assumptions.
Yes. Every installer we work with is MCS registered and holds current certification, and your system is certified on completion. We design the system, manage the project and handle the documentation and the DNO notification; you receive your MCS certificate at handover. Keep it safe — it is what you need to register for Smart Export Guarantee payments, and it underpins your warranty.
The battery is built from stackable modules rather than being one sealed unit. You can start with 7.68 kWh and add another module in two years without replacing the inverter or redesigning the system. It means you don’t have to guess your future usage today — and if you later add an EV or a heat pump, the system grows with you.
No. Twelve months of aftercare is included with every package and there is nothing to pay beyond the installation. We are building MagHomes Monitor, our own monitoring platform, and when it launches there will be optional support plans with published prices — but it is not live yet and nothing is being sold on the back of it today.
The parts are usually covered by the manufacturer for a long time — panels 25–30 years, inverters 5–12, batteries around 10 — and we register those warranties in your name and make the claim for you. Labour to diagnose and replace a part is generally not covered by manufacturers; if a repair is needed you get a quote before anyone attends, and you decide.
Most residential installs are completed in a single day, typically 2–3 weeks after your survey. That window covers the design, your DNO notification, and scheduling. Commercial systems are scoped individually.
We’ll tell you at survey stage rather than sell you a system that disappoints. Heavy shading, a north-facing pitch or a roof needing structural work can all make solar a poor investment. In those cases we’ll usually point you at insulation or a battery-only system first — the survey is free either way.
